Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Capitol City Baptist Bible Institute & College Question #1:
How will I do the research to find the information I need for class?

Your teacher will provide you with the answers to your questions about materials and direct you to local and web sources of information.

Capitol City Baptist Bible Institute & College Question #2:
Why do you use the KJV?

We believe the King James Bible - 1611 to be the most accurate English interpretation of the Bible available today. All quotes in the Study Guides and the teacher notes will be from the KJV-1611, however you are certainly encouraged to compare your family Bible or other guides for personal understanding and clarity.  Click on the picture to read what President Ronald Reagan had to say about it.

Capitol City Baptist Bible Institute & College Question #3:
Why can't a student just read the book and take quizzes?

Texts and workbooks will continue to provide familiar, invaluable learning and give a good balance with the internet tools.  Actually, a student will spend more time in the books than on a computer.  Students may go online to get added teacher materials, and for research and teacher contacts.

Capitol City Baptist Bible Institute & College Question #4:
What is the pace and schedule of your K-12 Academy courses?

We can begin anytime and will try to fit into your timetable.  Our classes are set up in weekly blocks so that a normal pace would allow a student to finish in a traditional and timely manner, but may be slowed or accelerated as need be.  It takes about a week for the books to arrive, but academy students may begin immediately upon ordering as we have the curriculum demo of the first two weeks of study available online.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #5:
How is each course set up and each class run?

The academy student Study Guide text/workbooks are laid out in a weekly format with daily lessons. Our teachers  complement and embellish the Landmark's Freedom Baptist Curriculum Study Guides through written lesson supplements, offering further insight and explanation.  Students using our Christian Teacher Support for Student Studies are treated to extra web page insight through additional images, teacher notes, activities, and bolded text to emphasize key points, giving help specifically for the weekly quizzes.  Click here to see a demo of the first two weeks in each subject at each level, k-12. Students can take the time to think and reflect on the materials presented and are encouraged to ask questions regularly of their teachers and to do research for their lessons.  Links to acceptable web sites are suggested for online research.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #6:
Who will proctor the student quizzes and tests?

Some of the quizzes at the early elementary levels may be administered by a parent, while at the higher grade levels, accountability is an issue, and an adult holding a teaching degree or theology degree is preferred to proctor weekly quizzes. Older students go to an arranged, local testing site to meet with a qualified proctor, preferably under the direction of the local church.  Our aim is to assist the church congregation in helping families "train up a child in the way he should go..."

At the high school grade levels the nine-week quarter tests should be administered by a proctor at sites to be arranged.  Convenient testing sites and times are best worked out locally with the proctor nearest you. Proctors also collect the weekly quizzes for purposes of verification and authenticity.  This is being done at churches, in schools, and at libraries.  This approach is being used by many others and is being used successfully with our local families who home school at present.  Contact us regarding this procedure.

A proctor can be a big influence on a student, so care should be taken when choosing who it will be. The weekly proctor supervises the quiz session but does not do any of the teaching.  All quizzes, quiz answers, quarter tests, and test answers are to remain in the possession of the proctor.  Scoring and reporting of scores are to be done by the proctor. A roomful of students could all easily quiz at the same time with the same proctor.  Traditionally, quizzes are set up to be taken on a Friday, but that is not set in stone and can be worked out locally.  Some pastors have proctored before Wednesday evening services each week and therefore were very well-informed on what was being taught and how each student progressed.  It allows the local church to have a "Christian school" without the burdens that usually go along with such a responsibility.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #7:
Who will keep records of the grades and credits for courses?

If a family chooses to not worry about accreditation any grade keeping and records of their child's achievements are their own personal business.  There will be no official transcript or record of levels completed and students will just have to take their chances with being admitted to any educational institution.  If, however, a family desires such verification of authenticity each year, they should join with an academy (school) that will keep the course records and will require an adequate number of credits.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #8:
Are course credits transferable if we go to another school?

Educational institutions each have their own standards and requirements and therefore strongly consider course accreditation important and take a dim view of those families who school their own children. In the event that your family situation might change and the student(s) transfer to another school or decide to attend some college or university that requires verification of classes completed, you might consider joining an academy (school).  The home school movement has grown tremendously and many colleges and universities have entrance exams and rely on national test results such as the ACT and SAT.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #9:
How can I protect my family from harmful materials online ?

We make every attempt to shelter and protect our students with programs that nurture and allow them to be shaped and molded for their Christian walk.

We encourage students and their families to use a software filter.  Please remember that one can usually find a way around a filter if inclined to do so.  We are more interested in the spirit and the attitude of our students and you as parents must be cautious and attentive to the time spent online.  We strongly encourage you to place the computer monitor in a place where it can be easily viewed by you whenever students are online.

Capitol City Baptist K-12 Academy Question #10:
Where can I get a filter and what is the cost?

If you click on one of the names below, you will be sent to that company's web site.
